Making Waves: Skimboarding in Albay!

Skimboarding is a "board sport" in which a skimboard is used to glide across the water's surface. This is a fairly new water sport starting to gain popularity in the province of Albay, particularly Legazpi City, where the first ones to discover the breaking waves along the shorelines of Arimbay and Rawis are from.

Not like surfing skimboarding begins on the beach by dropping the board onto the thin wash of previous waves. The Skimboarders use their momentum to 'skim' out to breaking waves, which they then catch back into shore in a manner similar to surfing. They also insert similar moves and tricks from the board sport - Skateboarding  and that's where the fun starts.

The shores of Albay, Philippines are pretty much a great venue for such a sport wherein the waves may reach as high as 5ft to 7ft on some days. A natural feat even a machine-rigged winch could not attain. Ain't that gnarly?
